Ecology Survey Manchester: Surveys and Assessments
What is an Ecological Survey?
Ecological surveys are undertaken on proposed development sites to establish any environmental impacts which the development may cause. Ecological surveys may be required during the planning process to ensure planning permission applications for development and construction are successful. The local planning authority will use the survey to consider how the development will positively or negatively impact the environment of the area.
An ecological site survey will highlight anything that could cause concern from an ecological standpoint. A survey will also identify any protected species and habitats that are present within proximity of the site.
Ecology Survey Manchester: Types of Survey
Preliminary ecological appraisal (PEA) :This is the first survey carried out by a licensed ecologist, known as a phase 1 habitat survey. It is an initial desktop study and a walkover survey. A PEA survey will identify the various habitats and species that are present within the site. It will also highlight any planning policy issues and potential impacts of the development on a particular species.
Ecological impact assessment: This is an essential document that describes the potential effects of any activities on the environment. This assessment takes the results that have been provided from the PEA and uses them to assess the impact by undertaking detailed habitat specific surveys.
Protected Species Survey: If there is any indication that a protected species could be present on a development site, a protected species survey will be required. Common types of protected species surveys include badgers, great crested newts, barn owls, water voles, and nesting birds. badgers, great crested newts, bats, barn owls, water voles, nesting birds, and bat activity surveys. The bat surveys we offer include bat entry surveys and emergence surveys to identify roosting bats for all types of UK native bats such as pipistrelle bats. Preliminary roost assessments can also be carried out to detect the presence or absence of bats.
