Fenland Planning Portal: Applying for Planning Permission
The Fenland planning portal is the official online system for submitting, tracking, and managing planning applications within the Fenland area. Designed to be straightforward and efficient, the portal allows applicants to upload documents, monitor progress, and receive regular updates. Local residents can also view applications and share feedback during the consultation period.
To improve your chances of approval and ensure compliance with the Fenland District Council’s environmental policies, it is advisable to seek ecological advice early in the planning process. Collington Winter offers expert consultancy to guide and support you at every stage.
Using the Fenland Planning Portal
Prepare your application – Gather and complete all required documents, including:
- Application forms (available through the Fenland planning portal)
- Accurate site location plans and elevation drawings
- Supporting documents such as design and access statements
- Ecological surveys, impact assessments, and mitigation strategies
Submit your application – Upload your documents via the portal. You will receive confirmation and a unique reference number for tracking purposes.
Public consultation – Your application will appear on the public register, giving local authorities, residents, and stakeholders the opportunity to review and comment.
Application review – Planning officers will assess your submission against national and local planning policies. They may request additional information or amendments.
Decision – A decision notice will be issued either by a planning officer or, for larger projects, by the planning committee.
Ecological Services to Support Your Planning Application
Collington Winter Environmental provides a comprehensive range of ecological services to support planning submissions:
- Ecological Surveys – Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEAs) to assess habitats, protected species, and site constraints. Where necessary, we also recommend and carry out further detailed ecological surveys to ensure all requirements are met.
- Protected Species Assessment – Surveys for bats, badgers, great crested newts, reptiles, and nesting birds in line with UK and EU law. If protected species are found, we provide mitigation and licensing support, enabling your project to progress responsibly while safeguarding local wildlife.
- Tree surveys – Assessing tree health, root protection areas, and implications of Tree Preservation Orders (TPOs). We also advise on tree retention, protection measures, and compensation planting where removal is unavoidable.
- Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) – Measuring biodiversity and creating plans to meet the mandatory 10% net gain under the Environment Act 2021.
- Landscape Surveys – Considering the ecological and visual impacts of developments. This helps strengthen your application by demonstrating a balanced approach to development and environmental protection.
- Ecological Clerk of Works – On-site monitoring during construction to ensure ecological requirements are properly followed.
