Clerkenwell Planning Portal: Applying for Planning Permission

The Clerkenwell Planning Portal is the official online platform for submitting, managing, and tracking planning applications in the Clerkenwell area. Designed for ease of use, it enables applicants to upload supporting documents, monitor progress, and engage with the process by searching for planning applications and commenting on them during public review periods.

To increase your chances of approval and ensure compliance with Islington Council’s environmental requirements, it is essential to seek ecological advice early. Collington Winter offers expert consultancy, guiding you through every stage of the application process.

Using the Clerkenwell Planning Portal

Prepare your application

Gather all required information and documents, including:

  • Completed application forms (available for download on the Clerkenwell Planning Portal)
  • Accurate site location and block plans
  • Architectural drawings and elevations
  • Supporting materials such as design and access statements
  • Ecological surveys, impact assessments, and mitigation plans

Submit your application

Once all relevant information has been submitted, you will receive a confirmation and a reference number to track your application.

Public access and consultation

After submission, your application will appear on the public register. Residents and other stakeholders can review it and submit comments during the consultation window.

Application review

Planning officers will assess your proposal against local policies and national planning guidance. If issues are identified, you may be asked to amend your plans before a decision is made.

Decision

A formal decision will be issued, either by a planning officer or a planning committee, depending on the scale of the development.

Ecological Services to Support Your Application

  • Ecological Surveys – Most projects begin with a Preliminary Ecological Appraisal (PEA), which identifies habitats, the potential presence of protected species, and any ecological constraints.
  • Protected Species Assessment – If species such as bats, badgers, great crested newts, reptiles or nesting birds are present, we carry out targeted surveys in line with UK and European legislation to keep your project compliant.
  • Tree surveys – Trees are also considered, particularly those covered by Tree Preservation Orders (TPOs). Our surveys assess their condition, map root protection zones, and recommend whether they should be retained or removed.
  • Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) – All developments must now meet the 10% biodiversity requirement set by the Environmental Act 2021. We can measure the site’s biodiversity and produce a plan to meet regulations.
  • Landscape Surveys – We offer these assessments to evaluate how a project will affect an area’s appearance and ecological value.
  • Ecological Clerk of Works – During construction, our ECoW services provide on-site supervision to ensure all ecological measures are followed.
